Bissell School adopts "BELIEVE" as their theme song of the year! Minimize

Creating a happier environment is exactly what Bissell Elementary did this school year! They decided to “adopt” the BELIEVE song as their theme song of the year and Sharon Sanders, the principal played it over the PA announcements every third Tuesday of the month. On that same day, students, teachers, lunch aides, and cooks, all wore their BELIEVE t-shirts that had “Bissell BELIEVES in Kids!” on the back.

These days were special because the kids loved hearing the song as they walked into school and they were happier on these days. They also liked wearing the same shirt as their teachers and classmates. These days brought on school unity and helped enhance the schools Positive Behavioral System that was already in place.

Matt Hoffmann, the school’s counselor, stated that these Tuesdays took on more meaning. He along with Sharon Sanders stated that they will definitely continue this program because it helped raise students’ self-esteem which then helps students have better behavior, health, and academics and raising children’s self-esteem is exactly what iDREAMability is all about!

“As a principal, I am very pleased to have the “BELIEVE” song program in our school. It has brought our positive environment to the next level and it is great to see unity of our children when they all wear their BELIEVE shirts on the same day. It brings smiles on their faces and they know that we “BELIEVE” in them and in their dreams! I would recommend this program to all elementary schools because it enhances children’s self-esteem and we all know that positive self-esteem is the bottom line to both academics and behavior in our schools"

What People are Saying Minimize
"As a teacher, I have seen how powerful the words in the Believe song can be to a student and the positive effect it can have on learning. When the song is played, you can see the confidence in their face and hear it in their voice. Students who believe in themselves make better choices, which lead to positive behaviors and increased learning in the classroom. I love the effect the Believe song has on my students and on my ability as a teacher. By playing the Believe song, I am telling my students that I know they can succeed in anything they choose! What a wonderful feeling to share!"

"Just a quick note regarding the Believe song and shirts. I just wanted to comment how wonderful the song, as well as the whole idea. It is so powerful and encouraging to the kids. Mrs. Smialek did an outstanding job. Kudos to her!!"

"Even though I am not a regular classroom teacher, I do hear the students singing the song when the song is played. They seem to love the song and are enthusiastic to sing along. I also hear chatter about wearing the T-shirt. It's a positive group they can be a part of."

"The Believe song has such a powerful meaning to the kids at Bissell Elementary! The words give encouragement to the kids to believe in themselves and see the results if they work hard at anything. My daughter asked me to buy the cd and tee shirt because it meant a lot to be apart of “Believe Tuesdays” at Bissell Elementary. She says it makes her believe that she can succeed in anything! I personally enjoy seeing her sing the song that encourages her. Kids at this age need something positive to lead them in the right direction. It will affect her future if she is lead the right way at an early age. The Believe song is the starting point."
